The move to sign veteran cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. could have been viewed as a bit risky for any team in the NFL due to the nature of Samuel’s injury history, and the fact that he is coming off of a spinal fusion surgery.
But for the Pittsburgh Steelers, particularly head coach Mike Tomlin, it was an easy decision to sign the veteran cover corner to the practice squad.
Speaking with Steelers.com’s Bob Labriola for an article on the team site Sunday morning, Tomlin outlined the comfort the Steelers had in signing Samuel earlier in the week, giving Pittsburgh a boost — at least on paper — at an area of need in the secondary.
