Rodgers Reveals Opening Deep Ball To Metcalf ‘Wasn’t Exactly The Play Call’

The Pittsburgh Steelers wouldn’t have beaten the Baltimore Ravens without the emergence of their deep passing game, which had otherwise been missing for most of the season. It all started on the Steelers’ first offensive play when Aaron Rodgers found DK Metcalf for a 52-yard gain. Apparently that wasn’t even the intended play.

“Getting him involved in the first play wasn’t exactly the play call, but I kind of felt, when he told me he was thinking about that play Saturday night, that I was hoping for a certain coverage so I could give him a shot in the first play of the game to get us going,” Rodgers said Thursday in a team-provided transcript.
