Pittsburgh Steelers sign QB Mason Rudolph to one-year extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed backup quarterback Mason Rudolph to a one-year contract extension on Thursday, the team announced.

The deal puts Rudolph under contract through the 2022 season. Starter Ben Roethlisberger's contract, which he renegotiated earlier this offseason, is set to expire after the 2021 season.

Rudolph's new deal pays an average of $3 million per year in 2021 and 2022 along with upsides to get it higher, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Rudolph had been scheduled to make a base salary of $1.014 million in 2021, the final season of his rookie contract.
