When the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired TE Jonnu Smith from the Miami Dolphins in the CB Jalen Ramsey trade, he wasn’t supposed to be a throw-in. The Steelers wanted Smith to be a part of their tight end corps. QB Aaron Rodgers has targeted him 36 times so far this season, third-most on the team.
But Smith hasn’t produced to the same level as people hoped. Despite the third-most targets, Smith has the fifth-most receiving yards, 163. That’s only 14 more yards than WR Roman Wilson, who saw only 15 targets so far this season. I think we all expected a drop-off in stats from last season with the Dolphins, where Smith caught 88 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns.
