I am a football fan because I am a civilized barbarian. I find joy in violence. That’s the barbarian part. I contain that urge to live with my peers in a civilization that is safe for both me (I am getting older) and the ones I love. I truly hope you are all the same, because a nation of barbarians would be a terrible place for your women and children, and a nation of gentle, horrified-by-conflict souls wouldn’t last long enough to protect them.
