The Pittsburgh Steelers defense has been a takeaway machine in 2019. After eleven games the defense has 28 total takeaways, second only to the New England Patriots who have 29. Of their 28 takeaways, 14 of those have been interceptions and 14 have been fumble recoveries. To say this has been a stark difference from 2018 is an understatement.
So, what exactly has caused all these takeaways? Mike Tomlin talked about that during his Tuesday press conference at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
“The players deserve the credit. We make points of emphasis, we construct days that are conducive to building awareness and techniques that produce it, but they have to do it.
