Mason Rudolph On Short-Yardage Failures: ‘Any Time You Can’t Convert You Turn The Ball Over’

The Pittsburgh Steelers have, for whatever reason, been stunningly bad this season, not just on third and fourth down, but on third and fourth down in short-yardage situations. It’s really quite baffling. They are, literally, the worst team in the league with respect to successfully converting on third or fourth down with one or two yards to go.

According to Pro Football Reference, the Steelers have faced those circumstances on 28 plays this season. That is the middle of the pack in the NFL in opportunities. They’ve gotten a first down on those plays nine times.
