When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted wide receiver Calvin Austin III in the fourth round out of Memphis in the 2022 NFL Draft, the franchise envisioned him being a game-changing offensive weapon in offensive coordinator Matt Canada’s scheme, providing serious speed and explosiveness.
Instead, Austin never got out of park, getting hurt the day before the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks, missing the entire 2022 season.
Now, healthy and entering a key offseason, Austin is being looked at — rightly or wrongly — as the answer in the slot in Canada’s third season at the helm of the offense.
