When veteran cornerback Darius Slay left the Sunday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the first half with a concussion, veteran backup James Pierre was inserted into the game as the outside cornerback opposite Joey Porter Jr.
It’s a role he’s used to at this point in his Steelers career – coming off the bench in a pinch. And like he has throughout his career, Pierre stepped up and made plays.
Though the Steelers defense wore down in the second half of the loss, Pierre had two pass breakups and was sound in coverage throughout the night.
