Aaron Rodgers took all of his snaps from shotgun last week, but two thirds of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ total offensive snaps have come from shotgun this season. Former Steelers RB Merril Hoge doesn’t like this trend.
“It takes all the physical presence out of football,” Hoge said Wednesday via 102.5 WDVE’s Morning Show with Randy Baumann. “I think it’s a soft way to play.”
He makes the point that it’s easier to scout tendencies in shotgun when a back is set to one side or the other. Under center, the back would be aligned in a neutral position directly behind the quarterback.
