Insider: Steelers Won’t Let Tomlin Hit Open Market Without Shopping Trade Offers

Mike Tomlin is no longer the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but if he wants to coach elsewhere within the next two years, the Steelers could get well-compensated. Tomlin stepped down while still under contract with the Steelers, and while he’ll likely find a home in TV, potentially at FOX, for 2026, ESPN’s Peter Schrager reported on Get Up this morning that the Steelers won’t let Tomlin freely hit the open market and a trade would be required.

“I’ve been told the Steelers aren’t gonna just let him hit the market. This is gonna be one of those where if you want to have Tomlin’s services as a coach, you’re going to have to trade something to the Steelers like Sean Payton had the Broncos have to trade something to the Saints.
