Gene Collier: Defense came alive after figuring out Gates was playing

SAN DIEGO — You would be tempted to say the Steelers pulled two fourth-quarter touchdowns out of thin air Monday night at Qualcomm Stadium, but there was no thin air to be found with the Southern California humidity hovering around 500 percent, and the temperature at kickoff reading 93 degrees.

It was the second-hottest setting for a Steelers game, so how the heck could the offense be so cold for the great bulk of three hours and eight minutes?

The setting was hot, the offense was cold, but the Steelers defense was just right in a game that Le’Veon Bell scored the winning touchdown as time expired.
