Former Steelers linebacker James Harrison announces his retirement...again

Former Steelers linebacker James Harrison announced his retirement via his Instagram account Monday morning.

Harrison, who owns the franchise record for sacks, finished his career with the New England Patriots last season after a unceremonious exit that ended with his Steelers teammates ripping him on his way out the door.

Harrison, who played 14 of his NFL seasons with the Steelers, tallied 84 ½ career sacks, 80 ½ with the Steelers from 2002-12 and again from 2014-17.

This is Harrison’s second retirement. He first retired after spending the 2013 season with the Bengals. He came out of retirement early in the 2014 season after former Steelers linebacker Jarvis Jones was injured.
