Fittipaldo: Steelers Aren’t ‘Gung-Ho’ To Elevate WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling Anytime Soon

The Pittsburgh Steelers searched high and low throughout the offseason and leading up to the trade deadline for an answer at wide receiver behind DK Metcalf. But GM Omar Khan didn’t find a deal he liked, and ultimately the Steelers went the safe route, signing veteran Marquez Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad.

Valdes-Scantling made sense as a cheap addition due to his familiarity with quarterback Aaron Rodgers dating back to his time in Green Bay from 2018-21. During those years with the Packers, Valdes-Scantling hauled in 123 passes for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He hasn’t played with Rodgers in awhile though, and while he might still be able to create splash plays downfield, the Steelers don’t seem all that interested in giving him an opportunity to do so.
