The move to skip out on mandatory minicamp entirely in the midst of wanting a new contract was a bit of a surprising move from Pittsburgh Steelers’ star outside linebacker T.J. Watt, but certainly an understandable one.
The last time he was in a contract negotiation, Watt didn’t miss any time, though he stayed off to the side putting in individual work during minicamp and training camp ahead of the 2021 season. Now though, he’s trying a new tactic, and that’s not showing up, conducting a holdout as he negotiates for a fair contract.
That led to quite a bit of talk Tuesday on Day 1 of mandatory minicamp for the Steelers at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on the South Side.
