DA's office, county sheriff still mulling response for Oakland Raider that taunted K-9 dog

A Pittsburgh police dog taunted by an Oakland Raiders player before the Nov. 8 Steelers-Raiders game had to be taken out of service after the incident, which Allegheny County officials today said created "an unnecessary security risk," but was not "malicious."

The district attorney's office office will "communicate with authorities in California as to how we can address this matter," spokesman Mike Manko said in a statement emailed to reporters.

Sheriff Bill Mullen and District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. met today "concerning possible charges and the appropriate way to handle" the incident. Authorities have said the Raiders player lifted his shirt, beat his chest and barked at the German shepherd before telling a female K-9 deputy to release the bomb-sniffing dog, Banditt, at Heinz Field.
