The Pittsburgh Steelers are no stranger to small, midseason receiver acquisitions. Last year, they traded a mid-round pick for Mike Williams. This year, the Steelers signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad in early November and were awarded Adam Thielen via waivers this week.
Maybe it shouldn’t be that surprising, but neither of the first two made a big impact. Valdes-Scantling still has not found a way off the practice squad, and aside from a game-winning touchdown catch, Williams didn’t help the offense a ton either. While Thielen certainly could have more success than those two, Ray Fittipaldo thinks his role this week could look similar to Williams last year.
