The Pittsburgh Steelers have not been an explosive offense this season. Before the season, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith talked about wanting to be more explosive. Acquiring WR DK Metcalf was supposed to help make that a reality, but it simply hasn’t been the case. Pittsburgh is 30th in the league with just 29 explosive plays totaling 20 or more yards through 11 games. As for the month of November, the Steelers haven’t completed a pass of 20 or more air yards, while they’ve also avoided the middle of the field.
Despite the lack of explosion, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith doesn’t feel as though the Steelers are necessarily missing opportunities downfield and said there are a number of ways to create explosive plays.
