Adam Bittner: NFL reportedly considers turning the national anthem into a game

National anthem protests before NFL games have bitterly divided pro football fans over the past couple of years.

Some find the protests disrespectful of the American flag and military service. Others feel they’re a brave and profound way to peacefully call attention to racial inequality in our country.

Now, the NFL is reportedly weighing a proposed solution that seems more likely to offend both of those groups simultaneously.

Per sources, one anthem idea being discussed: Leaving it up to home team on whether teams come out for the anthem; if teams do come out for the anthem, potential that teams could be assessed 15-yard penalties for kneeling.
