Yankees close to adding Encarnacion

The New York media has been clamoring in recent days for the Yankees to add an impact pitcher to their starting rotation. General manager Brian Cashman, though, apparently has a different idea.

The Yankees are on the verge of trading for Mariners first baseman/designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion, who entered Saturday with an American League-high 21 home runs. Multiple sources are reporting that a deal is close.

Encarnacion was not in uniform Saturday night as the Mariners played the Athletics in Oakland. It was not immediately clear who Seattle would get in return from the Yankees in the deal.
