The Pirates came back to beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-4, this afternoon at PNC Park, earning a series split and evening their record at 8-8 before leaving for a nine-game, three-city road trip.
Gregory Polanco had three hits, including an RBI double. Josh Harrison doubled twice and scored twice, Sean Rodriguez homered and Jordy Mercer drove in the tying run in his return to the lineup.
Starter Jeff Locke had one clean inning, the third, out of the five that he pitched. He allowed four runs and 11 baserunners – seven hits, three walks, one with the bases loaded, and a fielder’s choice.
