With revenue-sharing grievance proceedings 'ongoing,' MLB union seeks to sit down with teams

WASHINGTON — The Major League Baseball Players Association’s grievance regarding the use of revenue-sharing funds by the Pirates and three other teams is “ongoing,” union executive director Tony Clark said Tuesday.

The union wants to interview individual clubs regarding their decision-making process, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said.

The union filed a grievance against the Pirates, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays in February. Money received from the revenue-sharing program, which redistributes local income in an attempt to level completive balance between large- and small-market teams, must be used to improve the product on the field but not necessarily on major league payroll.
