Stewart placed on disabled list with hamstring injury; Diaz added to roster

The Pirates on Tuesday placed backup catcher Chris Stewart on the 10-day disabled list because of a left hamstring strain. They recalled catching prospect Elias Diaz from Class AAA Indianapolis to take Stewart’s spot on the active roster.

Stewart, 35, was injured while legging out a triple in the Pirates’ 4-3 win Monday at PNC Park. It was his second triple of the season, and his second in his career. Afterward, manager Clint Hurdle said, “He doesn’t need to hit any more triples the rest of his career, either. We’ve put a limit at two bases unless it leaves the yard.
