Steven Brault has an unusual hitting streak going

PHILADELPHIA — Steven Brault, who is starting Saturday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, has made 29 MLB plate appearances without striking out. He is the first pitcher to reach that number since Detroit Tigers pitcher Fred Hutchinson.

Brault still has awhile to go before he catches up to Hutchison’s 66 plate appearances without a strikeout, a streak that straddled 1939 and 1940.

“We’ve known from the beginning, when we first put eyes on him, that this guy was an athlete,” manager Clint Hurdle said of Brault.

Brault singled off Mike Leake in his first major-league at-bat, in 2016.
