In an obvious selection, Starling Marte took home his first NL Gold Glove award on Tuesday night. Marte, who has always flashed the leather since coming into the league, really caught the national attention this season, as the Pirates, entrenched in a season long pennant chase, took the national stage often.
The raw numbers supported Marte as well: He led the NL in outfield assists with 16, and was third in the Majors with 24 defensive runs saved. He was a huge catalyst for the team this season, as many of his gems in the field came in crucial spots.
