Source: Pirates, S. Rodriguez agree to deal

PITTSBURGH -- Sean Rodriguez is coming back to the Pirates, though he may have a different part to play in 2016.

The Pirates have agreed to re-sign Rodriguez, an industry source told MLB.com on Tuesday. The club has not confirmed or commented on the deal, which was first reported by ESPN.com. According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Rodriguez's contract -- pending a physical -- will be for one year and $2.5 million, plus incentives.

Rodriguez, 30, joined the Pirates last offseason in a trade with the Rays. He spent most of the year backing up Pedro Alvarez at first base, with his defense drawing rave reviews from manager Clint Hurdle.
