SAN DIEGO — Man, the Padres can’t hit.
That doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given the roster manager Andy Green has to work with, but the numbers are striking nonetheless. Their 3.84 runs per game ranks dead last in the majors. So does their .301 on-base percentage. Only the Angels and Giants have a lower OPS than San Diego’s .702 mark, and only Oakland bats worse than the Padres’ .236 average.
It should come as no surprise then that they don’t walk much (25th in baseball) and strike out a lot (27th). When two Rule 5 picks are playing significant innings, this’ll happen.
