Pirates to sign outfielder Travis Snider

The Pirates intend to sign free-agent outfielder Travis Snider to a minor league contract, manager Clint Hurdle said today, thus bringing back the fourth outfielder they traded away prior to this season.

The Baltimore Orioles had designated Snider for assignment, and released him on Sunday. They acquired him from the Pirates in late January for minor league left-handers Stephen Tarpley and Steven Brault.

Snider, who joined the Pirates at the 2012 trade deadline from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Brad Lincoln (who is also back in the Pirates’ organization) hit .264 with a .338 on-base percentage and 13 home runs in 2014 for the Pirates.
