Pirates surge for seven runs in 10th, come from behind to win,12-5, over Braves

ATLANTA — For Andrew McCutchen, the road to redemption was short. Left out of the starting lineup Wednesday because of a sagging batting average and little luck lately at the plate, McCutchen entered as a pinch-hitter in the 10th inning and came around to score the deciding run.

McCutchen singled off reliever Josh Collmenter, snapping an 0-for-15 slump, and scored on Gift Ngoepe’s RBI double. The Pirates piled on, scoring seven runs in the 10th to complete a late-game comeback to win, 12-5, and salvaged a shot at a series split Thursday at SunTrust Park.

For the second consecutive game — both of which ended Wednesday — the Pirates were down to their last out, trailing by one, and rallied to extend the game into the bottom of the ninth.
