According to Jason Mackey of the Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates promoted catcher Henry Davis to Altoona after Sunday’s game. The first overall pick of the 2021 draft batted .341/.450/.585 in 22 games for Greensboro this season. He had nine extra-base hits and managed to drive in 22 runs.
This move is overdue because the catching situation in Greensboro was a bad one with Davis, Endy Rodriguez and Abrahan Gutierrez all splitting the catching duties. The team also had Eli Wilson on the bench and playing third base instead of catching. Davis moving up allows Rodriguez and Gutierrez to see regular playing time behind the plate, while also still being able to add versatility by playing elsewhere.
