The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled catcher Elias Diaz from Indianapolis. To make room on the active roster, they have optioned catcher John Bormann to Bradenton.
With Francisco Cervelli still uncertain for the next couple days due to a right foot injury, the Pirates need a catcher for at least tonight and possibly longer. Bormann was an emergency replacement yesterday due to timing and proximity to Miami, but he did not make the trip to Cincinnati with the team. Diaz was kept out of yesterday's Indianapolis game and met the Pirates in Cincinnati for today's game.
Diaz has been hitting well recently after a slow start.
