The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez on the 15-day Injured List. They have recalled right-handed pitcher Chase De Jong, who has been pitching on rehab with Triple-A Indianapolis.
In addition to those moves, infielder Drew Maggi has cleared waivers and been assigned outright to Double-A Altoona. He played last night, so this is a quick turn around on a player going from being designated for assignment (which had to happen at some point after the game last night) to clearing waivers.
Velasquez left yesterday’s game early with right elbow discomfort.
