Pirates notebook: Team takes a day to relax at the Bay Area

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Pirates couldn’t have asked for a nicer place to spend their off day Thursday than San Francisco, where the team hotel is stationed for their three-game series at Oakland Alameda Coliseum. It was the Pirates’ first no-travel, no-baseball day since May 12.

“Thought about taking another one today but was told we had a game,” manager Clint Hurdle joked Friday before the series opener against the Oakland Athletics. “Everybody really unplugged, and now they’re plugged in appropriately. We’re ready to go.”

The Pirates jetted to the Bay Area late Wednesday night from Seattle.
