Pirates News: Draft signings, Andrew McCutchen history, Johan Oviedo update

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced their first wave of signings from the 2025 MLB Draft – headlined, of course, by No. 6 overall pick Seth Hernandez, who signed for a record $7.25 million and was introduced at a press conference on Tuesday with Pirates general manager Ben Cherington.

Hernandez's $7.25 million signing bonus was the highest ever for a high school pitcher, but also more than $308,000 under slot value for the No. 6 selection. The Pirates' first four picks from this year's draft have all signed for a combined $644,700 under slot, giving the club ample flexibility as it works to sign the rest of the 2025 class.
