If you were like me, maybe you thought that returning to PNC Park – following an off day – and facing a rookie (making his second career start) would help the Pirates snap out of this funk a little bit.
It didn’t.
Starling Marte hit a solo homer in the second, but once again the Pirates went an entire game without driving in a runner that was on base. And they didn’t get too many on base to begin with against Michael Lorenzen, who looked decent and throws hard, but had only pitched four games above Double-A prior to this one.
