Pirates' Josh Harrison expected to be out 7 weeks after thumb surgery

Josh Harrison had surgery Wednesday to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. The Pirates estimated Harrison’s recovery time at seven weeks.

Thomas Graham, a hand specialist at the Cleveland Clinic, provided a second opinion that confirmed the Pirates’ initial diagnosis. Dr. Graham also performed the procedure.

Andrew Lambo had a similar procedure on May 28 last season and returned to competitive baseball by July 3.

Minor leaguer Jameson Taillon had surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. performed by Dr. George Eid from the Allegheny Health Network. This procedure has a typical recovery time of eight weeks.
