The Los Angeles Dodgers took advantage of Pirates mistakes Tuesday night. Pirates batters couldn’t take advantage of much of anything. The game represented a momentary intersection of one team on the way up, the other in a descent.
The Pirates’ 5-0 loss in front of 12,879 at PNC Park lowered their record to 30-30 and raised the Dodgers’ record to 30-30. The Pirates are 4-13 in their past 17 games; the Dodgers, 14-4 in their past 18. The Dodgers homered three times on pitches the Pirates left over the plate. The Pirates, one game after almost getting no-hit, recorded seven singles.
