LOS ANGELES — The Pirates aren’t reusing lineup cards this season. On Tuesday, left fielder Chris Bostick made his first career start and Jose Osuna played first base for the first time in the majors. As if that were not enough, the Pirates moved Gregory Polanco back to right field.
The result was the Pirates’ 30th unique batting order in 33 games this season. It’s not simply based on wonky shifts up and down the lineup either. The Pirates this season have employed 29 different iterations of their defensive lineup, not including the starting pitcher.
The Pirates have not used the same defensive lineup in consecutive games this season.
