Andrew McCutchen was named the 2015 Roberto Clemente Award winner Friday in a ceremony at Citi Field prior to Game 3 of the World Series. McCutchen, the Pirates center fielder, is the second Pirates player to win the award, joining Willie Stargell in 1974.
The award, originally known as the Commisioner's Award, was renamed in 1974 to honor Clemente, the Pirates outfielder who died in a plane crash. Every year, a player from each team is nominated, and a panel decides which player best represents the game on and off the field. In 2014, Paul Konerko and Jimmy Rollins shared the award.
