Andy Barkett, the manager of the Indianapolis Indians, the Pirates’ Class AAA minor league affiliate, is leaving his post to become an assistant hitting coach for the Boston Red Sox.

Barkett, 44, became the Indians’ manager last December and led the team to a 79-63 record, the best in the International League West.
