Pirates third base Rick Sofield is by all accounts a really good guy, a respected baseball man and a guy who players look up to and like.
He has forgotten more about the sport than most of his critics will ever know. Sofield has served a number of capacities as a minor league coach with the Twins, Dodgers, Expos and Pirates, and he also spent a number of years coaching baseball at the college level.
Here’s hoping the Pirates can utilize all of that experience in some capacity within the organization next year, because there is no way Sofield can return in his role as third base coach.
