Luke Weaver, Juan Nicasio limit Pirates offense in 4-1 loss to Cardinals

ST. LOUIS — Ryan Sherriff wasn’t in that much trouble. He had turned Josh Bell around, but Bell still recorded his third hit of the night with two outs in the eighth and nobody on. That was enough for St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, who summoned his newest reliever to protect a three-run lead.

Juan Nicasio trotted in from the home bullpen in right field to face David Freese. Before the game he caught up with the Pirates, who two weeks ago were his teammates. But that was two teams ago. He since spent a few days with the Philadelphia Phillies before the Cardinals traded for him this week.
