Lost weekend in Philadelphia: Pirates lose in 11, drop four-game series

PHILADELPHIA — It wasn’t like the Pirates didn’t have enough chances to score.

In their loss Sunday to the Philadelphia Phillies, 3-2, at Citizens Bank Park, the Pirates were one for 10 with runners in scoring position, and they left nine men on base. Elias Diaz homered, accounting for the Pirates’ two runs.

Still, Diaz’ effort, and the Pirates’, was not enough, and they lost in 11 innings to the Phillies, 3-2. Particularly in the later innings, they had myriad opportunities to score but couldn’t plate a runner.

The Phillies swept the Pirates in the four-game series, and the Pirates (12-10) have now dropped six of their past seven.
