Josh Harrison will miss approximately six weeks after sustaining a fracture in his fifth metacarpal of his left hand. The fracture affected the same bone that forced him to miss the end of the 2017 season.
Harrison was hit by a 96-mph fastball from Miami Marlins starter Jose Urena on Sunday afternoon. Allegheny Health Network hand specialist Ed Birdsong evaluated Harrison on Monday.
“I don’t know if I really have the words right now that are appropriate for TV, but I’m pretty frustrated,” Harrison said Sunday.
The Pirates did not announce who would replace Harrison at second base.
