Hometown heroes: Neil Walker, Meghan Klingenberg and Brandon Saad make Pine-Richland proud

Was that the sound of lightning striking three times? Or three Rams smashing expectations?

In the span of four years, Pine-Richland High School turned out three professional athletes: Pirates second baseman Neil Walker, U.S. soccer defender Meghan Klingenberg and Columbus Blue Jackets forward Brandon Saad.

Mr. Walker, who graduated in 2004 with letters in football, basketball and baseball, credits the district’s elected officials, administrators and coaches for raising their game. During his high school years, they opened new football and baseball facilities and hired more coaches with Division 1 college experience. He and his classmates won WPIAL titles in football in 2003 and baseball in 2004.
