Former Pirates prospect killed in plane crash

Details of the accident were reported by a local paper, Noticias de Cali, Valle y Colombia.

Eight other passengers, also reportedly baseball players, survived and were taken to a nearby hospital with various injuries.

The plane was bound for Medellin, Galvez's hometown.

After signing with Pittsburgh as a 16-year-old, Galvez spent the 2010-12 seasons on Latin American summer league teams affiliated with the Pirates. In a total of 157 games in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, he batted .281 with a .344 on-base percentage while predominantly playing second and third base.
