Former major-leaguer Joey Cora takes over as Altoona Curve manager

Former major-leaguer Joey Cora will become the new manager at Class AA Altoona, the Pirates announced today.

Cora will replace Tom Prince. The rest of the minor league managers all return to their previous positions.

Cora spent 11 years in the major leagues, playing for the San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians. He made the All-Star team with the Mariners in 1997, hitting .300 with 11 home runs.

After retiring, Cora managed in the New York Mets’ minor league system. He worked with rookie-level Kingsport in 2001-02, before moving to low-A Savannah in ’03.
