Film based on Clemente in the works

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Clemente spent his entire 18-year career with the Pirates. He was a 15-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, the 1966 National League MVP and 1971 World Series MVP.

Clemente compiled 3,000 career hits in Pittsburgh and in 1973 became the first Latin American player inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Clemente was well known not just for his passion for the game, but also for his charity work in the Caribbean. He died tragically on New Year's Eve in 1972, at the age of 38, in a plane crash while attempting to offer emergency aid to Nicaragua following a massive earthquake.
