ESPN's pessimistic Pirates prediction proves Pittsburgh has more work to do

The Pittsburgh Pirates have a lot of work to do if they hope to improve upon their dissapointing 2025 season.

In ESPN's first Stock Watch of the offseason, Bradford Doolittle had the Pirates sitting at 26th in the league following the World Series. The Pirates finished the 2025 season 27th out of 30 teams.

""With a lineup that currently projects to feature only three above-average hitters, upgrading should not be difficult.""

To put it plainly, the Pirates' lineup is so poor that any move will be an improvement. Doolittle projects that Pittsburgh will average 73.
