CINCINNATI — Jay Bruce’s triple in the ninth inning gave the Cincinnati Reds a 2-1 victory against the Pirates at Great American Ball Park Sunday afternoon.
Brandon Phillips singled off Arquimedes Caminero in the ninth and scored when Bruce hit a triple down the right-field line.
The Pirates lost the final two games of the series. They travel to Detroit tonight for two games against the Tigers at Comerica Park.
In the regular-season debut of Jeff Locke’s new mechanics, he completed six innings in 80 pitches. The one run he allowed resulted from a misplaced fastball to Eugenio Suarez, who homered for the second game in a row and tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth.
